The harmonic drive was invented by the American inventor C.Alt Musser in the 1950s. This harmonic drive theory applied the flexibility and elasticity of metals, subverted the traditional power transmission mode, and won worldwide attention.
The composition of harmonic gear transmission device
Circular spine: rigid internal gear, generally 2 more teeth than the flexwheel, usually fixed on the housing;
Flexspline: A thin cup-shaped metal elastic part with a gear on the outer ring of the open part, which deforms with the rotation of the wave generator and is usually connected to the output shaft;
Wave generator: consists of an elliptical CAM and a flexible bearing, usually connected to the input shaft. The inner ring of the flexible bearing is fixed on the CAM, and the outer ring can be changed into an oval shape by the elastic shape of the ball.

Advantages
▶ High speed ratio: The harmonic reducer does not need a complex mechanism, and a single stage deceleration can achieve a high speed deceleration ratio of 30-160 times.
▶ Small side clearance: Different from the general reducer, the unique meshing mode of the harmonic reducer has a very small back clearance value, and even can reach zero side clearance, which is fine degree control is excellent.
▶ High precision: affect the rotation accuracy of the pitch error and accumulated pitch error, because the harmonic reducer at the same time the number of teeth mesh is particularly large and symmetric, the error is averaged, so that its position accuracy and rotation accuracy can meet the extremely high requirements.
▶ Simple structure, fewer components: even in the case of high deceleration ratio, the harmonic reducer is composed of three basic components, and coaxial installation, simple structure, convenient design.
▶ Small, light weight: under the same torque and speed ratio, it is compared with the ordinary reducer with the same transmission ratio, its parts are reduced by 50%, and the volume and weight are reduced by about 1/3 or more.
▶ Large torque: the harmonic reducer has large bearing capacity, and the flexwheel is made of special steel with high strength and fatigue resistance. The number of gearing teeth at the same time is much, about 30% of the total number of teeth. That is, the number of teeth to bear the load, the force of each tooth is very small, in the case of the same material and speed ratio, the load capacity is large Over other drives.
▶ High transmission efficiency: High transmission efficiency of harmonic reducer. Compared with other drives with the same speed ratio, harmonic transmission is very efficient because of the small number of moving parts and the low speed of the meshing tooth surface, and the maximum efficiency is about 96%.
▶ Quiet operation: When the harmonic reducer is moving, the teeth of the tooth in and out are gradually entering and gradually exiting between the teeth of the rigid gear with the deformation of the flexwheel, the tooth surface contact during the snapping process, the slip speed is small, and there is no sudden change.
